Duval smashes lap record in practice

Loic Duval set a new lap record to beat Sebastien Buemi to the top spot in free practice for the Putrajaya ePrix.

Despite a big slide at Turn 12, Duval’s lap, which was set with just a few minutes of the session remaining, of 1m20.188s was good enough to demote Buemi to second by just one tenth of a second.

Daniel Abt was third quickest for ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, just ahead of DS Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird, who won the inaugural edition of the Putrajaya ePrix last season.

Lucas di Grassi set a time good enough for fifth and Nick Heidfeld was sixth for Mahindra Racing.

Antonio Felix da Costa finished seventh for Team Aguri with Jean-Eric Vergne, who had brought out the red flags in the first practice session, eighth for Andretti Formula E.

Bruno Senna was ninth in the second Mahindra machine and Stephane Sarrazin rounded out the top ten for Venturi.

Oliver Turvey ended up 11th quickest, just ahead of Jerome D’Ambrosio and Renault e.Dams’ Nico Prost.

Rookie drivers Nethanael Berthon and Robin Frijns were 14th and 15th; with reigning champion Nelson Piquet down in 16th for NEXTEV TCR.

Jacques Villeneuve suffered a suspected battery issue and ended up in 17th, just in front of Simona de Silvestro, who crashed in the second session, and was 18th for Andretti.
